Justice – Justice is our first university level scholarship recipient. He is currently in his second term of his first year of university. He is studying computer technologies at a technical university in Zimbabwe. He intends on going to study finances and wants to help his country and their economy through his financial education. He volunteers time during his holiday breaks at a local aid organization called FACT – Chiredzi (Family AIDS Caring Trust). We required 10 hours of community service during his break and Justice spent almost 8 hours per day at FACT during his break. We are very proud of Justice in his educational achievements and his contribution to his community.
Manuel – We are currently supporting Manuel as he completes his secondary schooling and takes his final exams. He will be attending university in 2007.
Honest – We are supporting Honest through his secondary education. He has approximately two years remaining in secondary school.
We are in the process of starting our first community center in Chiredzi, Zimbabwe. A team from the Elias Fund traveled to Zimbabwe from mid-November through mid-December, outlining a budget and plan for the community center. More details regarding the community center will be released soon.
On our first trip to Zimbabwe we were introduced to a community of about 70 families whose parents or guardians are blind due to untreated disease or other circumstances. The children of these parent/guardians are forced to beg for their family’s food and money daily. One of our local directors was feeding these families (approximately 300 individuals) through his personal income. We have since partnered with our director to provide the funds for the food for these families, which has allowed many of these children to get off the streets and into school. Every month these kids lead their parent or guardian to our makeshift community center to collect their monthly ration of food.
