Eric and his team are in Kadoma, Zimbabwe visiting our partners at Youth Education Training. Previously, the team was in Johannesburg, South Africa celebrating Albert Street School’s one-year anniversary. Three days into being in South Africa and the thought I have not been able to shake is the stark social contrast of this land. The roads here are littered with brand new BMW’s, Mercedes, Audi’s and such. Neighborhoods in the outlying areas of Johannesburg have ridiculously pompous shopping malls and casino’s and the people who shop there where clothing from fashion designers I’ve never even heard of. Yesterday I found myself surrounded by more than 500 refugee children in central Johannesburg who live in absolute poverty. There is a disconnect that is hard to conceive. When you live with this day-to-day it must become the norm. It’s just the way things are. . . Read more here.
