Tuberculosis Scare

Elias’ middle child, and original Elias Fund scholarship recipient, has been diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB). Honest has finishing his secondary schooling at a private college, preparing himself for the jump to a university. Here is a portion of the email we received about Honest:

Honest has had a bit of a set-back – he has quiet bad TB – you remember the uncle Eria, was staying with them before he died, and I presume that is where he picked it up. Now we know what the problem is he should respond fairly quickly to treatment – we are so relieved that he is NOT HIV positive – one always worries about that [...]

Though we are relieved Honest is not HIV+, the danger of TB is still troublesome. TB killed 1.6 million people worldwide in 2005 with Africa averaging the highest mortality rate. Our thoughts and prayers will most certainly be with Honest and his family as we are wholeheartedly behind his recuperation.
