Calling all silk screeners…

By admin, June 3, 2009

Listen up all you silk screeners and interested parties looking to learn the art of screen print! The Elias Fund is hosting a Screen Printing workshop on Monday, June 8 at 2pm in the Denver metro area and YOU are invited.

Why screen printing?? We’re trying something new, something fresh in our marketing approach. And we thought you could help us out by screen printing posters for our upcoming Friends and Family Day! We’re gonna print on cardboard, newspapers, fabric, and anything we can find! Think Guevara meets Seth Godin marketing …

Our friends from the Kinda Collective (a creative community of artists) have opened their space for this event.  So if you’re located in the Denver metro area, stop by next Monday, June 8 at 2pm for a fun and enlightening workshop. You can find directions here. Email any questions to hannah@eliasfund.org. We can’t wait to screen print with YOU!

O.A.R./Facebook Campaign Report

By admin, May 22, 2009

Thanks to all of you who supported the O.A.R.-Facebook Campaign. Between EF’s Facebook Cause and website, we raised $2,096. Add that to the $5,000 from O.A.R’s Heard the World Fund, and exactly $7,096 was raised in just one month. This has been our most successful online campaign to date!! Thanks to all of you who contributed, and thanks to the Heard the World Fund.

This funding will support our refugee friends at Albert Street School. Their specific need at this point in time is food provision for their 200+ unaccompanied students. The ‘unaccompanied’ are refugee students without parental guidance. More often than not these children are orphans. In some cases the parental figure still resides in Zimbabwe. The staff at Albert Street provide 24/7 care for the ‘unaccompanied’ and thus the pressing need for food provision.

A huge thanks one last time to all of you who contributed! And of course a big thanks to O.A.R. This is just one more story about the power of a grassroots community!

Run For Zimbabwe

Four guys. Four boards. One cause.

This June 5 – June 20 four European friends, Alex, Raif, Alfred and Peter, will “run” their longboards the length of Ireland. Why may you ask? To raise awareness about Zimbabwe’s crisis and raise support for EF’s partners at Albert Street School! In their own words:

“We are longboarding given that it’s a great thing to do. We toured Germany in 2008 just like that, and met numerous people who approached us being fascinated by our journey. Oftentimes these people would ask us about our motivation for traveling like that, and we could only answer we were simply fascinated by this way of traveling, not really thinking about why we were doing it.

This year, as we tour Ireland, we felt like doing more than just longboarding Ireland for ourselves. We wanted to take the pain and reach our physical limits for another reason—to create awareness for the people of Zimbabwe.

Assuming that only half of the people we meet during the tour ask us about a reason or cause for our journey, talk to us about our issues, visit run4zimbabwe.com or simply tell their friends about our little project, we felt that we could contribute to making people aware of the circumstances currently prevailing in Zimbabwe.”

The Elias Fund is excited to join with these adventurous individuals. You can learn more details about their ride here: Run For Zimbabwe. And if so moved, you can support the guys’ efforts by contributing through our donation link just to the right on this page. All donated money will go directly to the support of the Albert Street School. Please write “run4zimbabwe” in the comment field if you make a donation. Thanks!
